It is a duly recognized socio-civic organization of the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Through its various activities, it continually promotes social service and awareness not only among its members, but to society itself.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="center"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;activities&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;Some of the activities sponsored / held by the organization are:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="center"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:lucida grande;color:#cc0000;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Institutional Visits&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Some of the institutions we have visited are Bethany, Children's Joy Foundation, Kuya Center, Holy Trinity... CRIBS, among others.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="right"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc0000;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Medical / Dental Mission&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;The last Medical Mission was held on June 2002 at Waterville, Mandaluyong. Last May 2005, the organization gave some medicine to the Mangyan Community in Bacu, Mindoro.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc0000;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Leadership Activities&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;We facilitated a Leadership Workshop for the SK members of Alaminos City, Pangasinan last June 9-12, 2006.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="right"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc0000;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Social Awareness Week&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Film showings and educational discussions are some of the major activities during this special week.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc0000;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Tutorials&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Tutorials are regularly held in Krus na Ligas High School library for the organization's scholars.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;However, other students of Krus na Ligas HS can also avail of special tutorial sessions.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="right"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#cc0000;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Sportsfest and Bonding Activities&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;These activities promote camaraderie and better understanding among the members of the organization. It was a social service organization with political inclinations. Pandayan started out as a varsitarian organization with 90 members with Karel Garcia as its first duly elected president.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1977&lt;/strong&gt;: During the summer of this year, Jess Ignacio (a member of the editorial staff of Pandayan newsletter) and Boy Villar (2nd Pandayan President) were detained for allegedly writing subversive materials against the former regime.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On &lt;em&gt;July 14, 1977&lt;/em&gt;, &lt;span style="color:#cc0000;"&gt;UP SANDIGAN&lt;/span&gt; was born from Pandayan. It formed alliance with KISLAP, a social service corps. Sandigan organized LAGABLAB concert with Florante (honorary member); the proceeds of which were given to the fire victims of Pasig.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1978&lt;/strong&gt;: Sandigan visited the TALA LEPROSARIUM and continued its participation in KISLAP activities. The organization also co-sponsored a play, “Kapirasong Lupa”.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1979&lt;/strong&gt;: The organization visited GOLDEN ACRES and also participated in a leadership seminar. Sandigan held its first food sale at the A.S. Walk on the 5th of September.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1980&lt;/strong&gt;: Sandigan went to TALA LEPROSARIUM. SAMASA (Sandigan ng Mag-aaral para sa Sambayanan), the political party was formed with Sandigan as one of its Founding Member Organizations.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1981&lt;/strong&gt;: Members Alvin Contreras and Annabelle delos Reyes were elected councilors in the USC elections. Sandigan took part in a workshop with the Repertory Co.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1982&lt;/strong&gt;: This year marked an Alumni Homecoming. Sandiganistas also visited people in Muntinlupa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1983&lt;/strong&gt;: Members participated with the Campus Crusade for Christ and was able to set up a booth during the University Fair to sell fish balls.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1984&lt;/strong&gt;: Sandigan was with the Social Exposure and Integration Committee under SAMASA this year. The organization was represented by Luz Arcieto in a Human Rights Forum. UPS members also visited NAYON NG KABATAAN and participated in the Mendiola rally.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1985&lt;/strong&gt;: Bagong Silang relocation site and the HOME FOR THE DYING AND THE ABANDONED were visited by the organization. A rummage was held at Pook Dagohoy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1986&lt;/strong&gt;: This year’s USC elections found Owen Santos (CMC Councilor), Rannie Ison (CE Rep.), Milet ablan and Genemar de Silva (EE Reps.) elected into office. Sandigan, under the SAMASA wing, went to Smokey Mountain. HOME FOR THE DYING AND THE ABANDONED was visited and a rummage sale was held at Krus na Ligas. A Bingo Social was formed to fund the ESCOPA “ANAK NG MGA BULAG” as a batch project.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1987&lt;/strong&gt;: Sandigan held its 2nd Annual Homecoming. BUKAS PALAD and LINGAP were visited.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1988&lt;/strong&gt;: Special Olympics (Batch Project 1988-A) highlighted this year. The organization also sponsored a play, “Alimuom atbp.”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1989&lt;/strong&gt;: WHITE CROSS and GOLDEN ACRES were visited. The UPS SCHOLARSHIP FUND started this year and the Sandugan also gave NCEE tutorials to the senior students of Balara High School. A major fundraiser was a dance party, “We didn’t Start the Fire”.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1990&lt;/strong&gt;: This year found Sandigan visiting several institutions namely: WHITE CROSS, CRC, and HOME FOR THE AGED. The organization also visited Daang Kalabaw, a community in Pasig. UPS members also assisted a free clinic in Tagaytay.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1991&lt;/strong&gt;: Sandigan went to SMOKEY MOUNTAIN (Batch Project 1990-B) early this year. In the latter part of the year, Sandigan went to TAHANANG WALANG HAGDAN (Batch Project 1991-A) and held a free clinic at the Smokey Mountain with PHMS (Pre-Medical Honor Society). The organization also organized two free clinics at St. Anne Parish in Taguig. Most important of all, LINGAP ANGEL located within Boystown (home for the male street children) became the organization’s adopted institution. In addition, Task Force Street Children was formed with Sandigan as one of its founding organizations.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1992&lt;/strong&gt;: A free clinic was held at Barangay San Roque, Q.C. Sandigan also visited institutions such as ABIERTAS-HOUSE OF JOY and KAPATIRAN. The organization also co-sponsored the film, “The Last Boy Scout”.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1993&lt;/strong&gt;: Sandigan sponsored the showing of “The Secret Garden” at U.P. Film Center. Two External Committee activities were held at Kasiyahan Village, Don Antonio Heights, Q.C.: the Batch Project of 1993-B (a short educational program for kids about proper hygiene and reading comprehension) and a free clinic. The organization also had several exposure trips to KAPATIRAN. Its annual sports fest was held at Daza Park in Camp Aguinaldo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1994&lt;/strong&gt;: Two rummage sales were held at UP Chapel. This year was marked by exposure trips held at CRIBS, KAPATIRAN and SENDEN HOME (Batch 1994-A). Sandiganistas gave Christmas party at Kapatiran. The end of the school year was highlighted by a free clinic at Antipolo, Rizal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1995&lt;/strong&gt;: There was an exhibit entitled “Building Bridges Through Social Service” to keep the flame of Sandigan burning through 1995. The organization sponsored the showings of “Quiz Show” and “Much Ado About Nothing” to raise funds. In order to render better social service, it attended the Leadership Training officiated by OSA. It also reached out to the community by adopting Sapang Kangkong, conducting Livelihood Project at the tambayan, sponsoring a medical mission and holding a Christmas party for the unfortunate lahar victims in Pampanga. The scholarship for 5 Balara High School students was also continued.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1996&lt;/strong&gt;: Sandigan visited the HOME FOR THE AGED (Batch 1996-A). UP Sandigan sponsored the showing of “City Hall” and “Mrs. Winterbourne” at the UP Film Center. The organization also held and exposure trip at CRIBS.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1997&lt;/strong&gt;: UP Sandigan sponsored the film “Romeo and Juliet” at the Film Center. The said project was a big success. Another project in cooperation with Gatorade was the Fun Takbuhan participated in by individual runners. Institution visits were made to GOLDEN ACRES and KAPATIRAN. Batch 1997-A held their batch project at the SANTUARIO.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A Christmas Party was held at Kapatiran on the second semester. UPS started sending volunteers to CRIBS PHILIPPINES. Batch 1997-B held their batch project at the TAHANAN REHABILITATION CENTER in Payatas. The organization also held a MEDICAL MISSION in Krus na Ligas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1998&lt;/strong&gt;: UP Sandigan began sponsoring two scholars from Krus na Ligas High School. The organization held tutorial sessions for the scholars and their friends. Batch projects were held at Boys Town in Marikina and LAURA VICUÑA CENTER in Cubao. The organization also visited KAPATIRAN paper bags to raise funds. Also, UPS along with the other organizations staying near the main library hurled the issue of tambayan eviction.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1999&lt;/strong&gt;: This year marked the beginning of the regular visits of members and applicants to the C.R.I.B.S. PHILIPPINES INCORPORATED. Volunteers visited institution every Tuesday and Wednesday. At the start of the second semester, an immersion was held at Brgy. Pundakit San Antonio, Zambales. This was in preparation for the medical mission to be held in April 2000. Batch 1999-A held their batch project at KAIBIBGAN FOUNDATION in Ermita.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2000&lt;/strong&gt;: C.R.I.B.S. had been continuously visited by the members of UPS. Batch 1999-B had their batch project at LUNGSOD NG KABATAAN along Quezon Avenue. A Grand Merienda sponsored by the alumni during the summer. Two new fresh high school students were granted scholarships; plus the tutorials were continued. The official website for the organization was launched during the 23rd anniversary of UPS. Blood Donation Drive was also sponsored by the organization in cooperation with the National Kidney Instittute. Batch 2K-A held their batch project at LAKBAY DIWA in Project 6, Quezon City.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2001&lt;/strong&gt;: Regular institution visits were held – ARUGA in Fairview and LAKBAY DIWA in Quezon City. A Medical/Dental Mission was held in Barangay Tenejero in Pulilan, Bulacan, Batch 2K-B held their batch project in GOLDEN ACRES in Pag-asa, Q.C. LAURA VICUÑA CENTER in Cubao was again visited this year. Servants of Charity in Tandang Sora Q.C. SERVANTS FOR CHARITY IN Tandang Sora Q.C. was the venue of the batch project of Batch 2K1-A.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2002&lt;/strong&gt;: Sandigan continues its regular visits in CRIBS. TAHANAN REHAB CENTER in Payatas, Q.C. was visited once more. Children in CRIBS were brought to Children’s Library in Robinson’s Galleria. Batch 2K1-B’s batch project happened at KAISAHANG BUHAY FOUNDATION in Project 4, Q.C. A Medical Mission was conducted at Welfareville, Mandaluyong City in cooperation with Mandaluyong government. Three Alumni meetings and Grand Merienda was carried out in preparation for UP Sandigan’s 25th Anniversary.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2003&lt;/strong&gt;: During the second semester, members and applicants visited several institutions in Q.C. Visited were the BETHANY CHILDREN’S HOME in Congressional Village and RECEPTION AND STUDY CENTER in Pag-asa. A rummage sale was held in Krus na Ligas to further boost the organization’s fund. Batch 2K2-B held their batch project at the HOLY TRINITY FOR THE CHILDREN in Fairview, Q.C. Tutorials at Krus na Ligas High School was continued.&lt;br /&gt;The summer 2003 did not pass without another activity to culminate the year long celebration of the organization’s 25th anniversary. UPS members became a significant part of the Youth Build sponsored by the Habitat for Humanity in Tipas, Taguig, M.M. One of our alumna, Vice Mayor Loida Labao of Taguig sponsored the food of the UPS members who participated in this activity.&lt;br /&gt;The UPS was given the &lt;em&gt;Special Award for Community Work-School Based&lt;/em&gt; in the 2nd Quezon City Youth Achievers’ Awards. The PHILIPPINE HEART CENTER CHILDREN”S WARD and KYTHE FOUNDATION (Batch2k3A) was visited, and the members and applicants also provided assistance in the HE CARE’S FOUNDATION’s Anniversary Celebration.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2004&lt;/strong&gt;: This year, the UPS scholar, Jocelyn Bentozo, graduated with honors from Krus na Ligas High School. BETHANY CHILDREN”S HOME and GOLDEN ACRES were revisited, and it was in SINAGTALA that Batch2k3-B had their batch project. The fundraisers for this academic year included craft and rummage sales at the AS walk and Krus na Ligas, and co-sponsorship on the film “Bridal Shower.”&lt;br /&gt;Before the end of summer 2004, the UPS members took part in the Youth Build sponsored by the Habitat for Humanity in Amadeo, Cavite. Insivisits were held at the HOUSE OF REFUGE in Marikina, and CHILDREN”S JOY FOUNDATION in QC. TAHANANG STA. LUISA was the venue for Batch 2004-A’s batch project. UPS’ external vice president Arden Cecilia Gonzales was recognized as one of Hands on Manila Foundation’s Youth Volunteers Awards finalist. The organization also took part in the University’s Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE). Before the year ended, the members provided assistance in the Soup Kitchen headed by Fr. Robert Reyes and sponsored by Cravings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2005&lt;/strong&gt;: Institutions visited in the second semester were BAHAY PANGARAP in Novaliches, Q.C. and TAHANANG WALANG HAGDAN (Batch 2K4-B) in Cainta, Rizal.
